Map of the Ramsgate Jewish Cemetery May 2016

On-line copy of the 2016 map of the Ramsgate Jewish Cemetery, with updates to March 2021.

The site of the cemetery was previously arable farmland, and was part of Hollicondane Farm. It was purchased by Benjamin Norden from William Farley on 3rd May 1872. The first burial took place on 28 October 1872.

The burial ground now contains the graves of almost 400 people, and is cared for and maintained by the Montefiore Endowment.

The Royal Ramsgate, (The King's Head Inn) 1665-2015.

Facing the harbour, the King's Head was for centuries the centre of important maritime business - a place where ships owners met and commerce was auctioned. This ancient building was rebuilt at least three times and was renamed the Royal Hotel in honour of the visit by King George IV to the town on 24 September 1821.

This book charts the history of the building, its owners and proprietors over the last 350 years.

1736 Plan of Ramsgate

This is a redrawn plan of Ramsgate dating from 1736 which was published in the East Kent Times on January 9, 1901. The original source of this map is unknown, there being minor differences between this plan and the 1735 map published by John Lewis. The map was redrawn in 2015 with the help of a computer graphics editing program.
